A vascular reaction of the skin characterized by erythema and wheal formation due to localized increase of vascular permeability. Urticaria may be classified into a number of clinical entities according to 'causes' and/ or 'responses'. These types of urticaria include PHYSICAL URTICARIA, CHOLINERGIC URTICARIA, CONTACT URTICARIA, ALLERGIC URTICARIA, DRUG-INDUCED NONIMMUNOLOGICAL URTICARIA and IDIOPATHIC URTICARIA. Physical agents, drugs, foods and food additives, inhalants and infections may provoke urticaria.
